Altered Mirror

This is a mirror I have altered for a challenge at my local craft shop Running with Scissors called "same but different". Each month we are all given a bag containing identical items to see what we all come up with - it's great fun and this month we were all given a mirror. (silly me forgot to take a photo of the mirror before altering but basically it had a plain unvarnished wooden frame.
It is still a mirror, the butterflies you can see in the centre are a reflection of the picture I've made the mirror to match up to, thought it looked cool reflected in the mirror LOL! You can see it is still a mirror in the picture below.

I started out by painting about 2 inches in from the outside edge with Tim Holtz pickett fence crackle paint which I then distressed further with vintage photo distress ink once the paint was dry. I then added touches of gold metal flock and stamped a grunge corner from Stempelglede with Walnut Stain distress ink to each corner. I wanted my mirror to look like it had been redecorated and then fallen into disrepair again LOL hence the crackle painted area (representing the first time it was decorated) and the paper layer (representing the second time it has been decorated and the paper has come away at the edges LOL).

Next I tore a rough square from a plain Basic Grey "frosting" paper and inked the edges with vintage photo distress ink. I then stamped a grunge flourish from Stempelglede using antique linen distress ink.
The gorgeous flourish is a Tim Holtz grungeboard element and I have painted it with crackle paint and sponged with vintage photo distress ink.
All of the flowers are by Prima.
The butterflies I'm particularly chuffed with as I punched the small one with my MS monarch butterfly punch from plain vellum, scanned it, resized the pic a couple of times and used the printouts to trace onto the vellum so that I could cut them out in different sizes!!! I have added some tiny pearls from my stash to each butterfly.

Hope you like it and thanks for looking! I'll be back tomorrow with the Whiff of Joy challenge and my first ever DT post for Simon Says Stamp!! xx
