Just Magnolia Challenge DT - Special Monthly challenge

It's time for our special monthly challenge at Just Magnolia this week! We had intended this challenge to be the cracked glass technique but have since decided that starting this week all of our first Friday of the month challenges will be "anything goes" with a chance to win the $30 spending spree from Simon Says Stamp. All the DT have carried out the technique though so if you'd like to have a go too we'd love to see your cracked glass projects but you can enter with anything you like! Personally I love doing this - it's great fun and I love the effect and really should use it more often!

For those who do want to try it but don't know how to do this technique it's really easy:

1. Colour your chosen image

2. Using a clear embossing pad cover the entire image with the ink pad

3. cover with deep impressions/ultra thick embossing powder (there are several makes and names)

4. Heat emboss (it is best to do this in a box lid as the embossing powder flies everywhere!)

5. Ink with the embossing pad again, cover with embossing powder and heat again

6. Repeat step 5 one or two times more until the image looks like it is covered in smooth glass

7. Pop in the freezer for a couple of minutes

8. Take out and bend the image to make the glass crack

9. This is optional - ink over the top with distress ink to make the cracks stand out

Hope that helps those who haven't tried it before. Now onto my card for the challenge.

I have used paper from MME La Paperie stack and stamped around the edges with a Stempelglede flourish stamp using frayed burlap distress ink. The edges have been distressed and inked with the same ink. I wanted to create the effect of having a broken picture and frame on my card to make the cracked glass technique the centre of attention.

I coloured Tilda with copics to look like an old sepia photograph and then carried out the cracked glass technique on it. I have inked over mine with vintage photo distress ink to highlight the cracks. I also added a Tim Holtz photo corner to the bottom left of the image mat.

I created a photo frame with some grunge paper and various Tim Holtz and spellbinder dies. I painted it with pickett fence crackle paint and when that was dry I inked it with weathered wood and walnut stain distress inks. I was thinking white painted french furniture here LOL!

I created a sentiment "say not farewell" by tearing out the appropriate piece from a Magnolia Bon Voyage paper and inked the edges with walnut stain distress ink. The gorgeous charm is from Whiff of Joy. I love these, they give such a vintage look!

I added some pearls to the photo frame and some lace from my stash.

Hope you like it and I've inspired you to join us this week at Just Magnolia! We have a fantastic prize up for grabs and you can see more stunning inspiration by my teamies on the blog here. Thanks for looking! x

Hi, Jane. Me, again. I tried craquelè and , thanks to your useful tips, I made it! I've been having versamark and ultrathick for such a long time but I've never used them for this technique or just to gloss the stamp image. I've visited your blog and I've seen so many fab creations. I'll become a follower. Thank you. Miria

The antique & shabby chic effects are superb - love the inked cracked glass - have never done this myself so am grateful for the instructions. Really useful. The turquoise pearls are rather luscious in combination with the other elements & the white painted french furniture effect so effective too.
