All About Magnolia DT - No Cards

Warning!  Picture overload!  Good morning!  It is time for me to share my take on this month's challenge for the All About Magnolia Challenge and our theme this month is 'No cards'.  Having received some gorgeous Tim Holtz box corners from The Ribbon Girl earlier this month I knew I wanted to use them on this project and was initially going to make a gift box.  Then I decided I wanted to create something a little more exciting and this is the result - my miniature Victorian box camera!
Here's a view of the box camera so that you can see the concertina part that attaches the lens to the box.  I have recycled the card used to back colouring books to make the box as it is very sturdy.  To give the box camera a wooden look I swiped all of the card with Tea Dye and Vintage Photo Distress Inks before cutting.  Each piece has also been inked with Walnut Stain Distress Ink around the edges.
Having searched for images of a Victorian Box Camera I discovered that some were quite elaborate around the lens so used a Spellbinder die to create the shape for the 'wood' panel behind the lens.  This turned out so beautiful in the thick card as all of the embossed details are very prominent!  The lens surround was cut with Spellbinder circle dies and embossed with gold embossing powder.  I have used Tilda with Peony from the new Boho Collection for the picture inside the camera.
You can see the detail of the embossing in the above photo.
TI have tucked flowers from my stash into the base of the box for a feminine touch.
The gorgeous pink rose, white twirl stems and seam binding are all from The Ribbon Girl too.
I made the fuschias myself following my friend Chelsea's tutorial.
Here's a side view of the box camera - my favourite aspect of it!
This is what the back of the box looks like.  You can see the wood graining to better effect here.  I really love how it turned out!  Technically it will actually fold up into a box just like the real thing but I couldn't bear to squash all of my concertina folding as it took so long to get it to stay put!
I also embossed the sides of the lens.
Another view of the top of the box camera - I did warn you this was a picture heavy post!
I hope you like it and I've inspired you to create something other than a card for the All About Magnolia challenge this month.  Pop over to the blog to see the rest of the team's stunning creations. Thanks for looking! x
