Regrettably....

....I am finding myself in the position of having to point out my copyright notice (you may notice it has moved right to the top of my sidebar). This week someone out there in the world of blogger has posted a copy of one of my cards without asking permission and without linking back to me (and when I say copy, it looks as though they've had my card right there on the screen in front of them as they've glued every tiny piece down!) So as not to worry anyone unecessarily, I would point out I did contact the person asking nicely if they could link to my card.

I love it that my cards inspire people and am thrilled to be able to share my ideas for people to take inspiration from my work, indeed I'm flattered that they do so. However, to copy my work in its entirity and claim it as their own DT work is an infringement of my copyright and I am very upset that this has happened as I put a lot of work into every one of my cards (as we all do).

Maybe it seems foolish or unnecessary to post this but I have been so upset by this all week that I feel the only way to put it to rest in my head is to post about it. I hope I don't offend anyone by doing so and if I do I am truly sorry. x

Hi Jane you have every right to be cross & upset..why should you or any crafter put lots of effort into their work just to have it STOLEN cos thats what it amounts too..so dont be sorry you shout it from the roof tops..get it off your chest girl..

Hugs Christine xx

Aww Jane :( I would be very upset too. I feel other peoples creations are there to give me ideas. I don't know how someone can feel they have made something nice if they take someone elses creation and copy it.
I hope the person in question apologises and removes the card from their blog.

Hi Jane No wonder you are upset about this I can't beleive that another crafter would do such a thing. I love looking at your work and yes it inspires lots of people but not to copy totally.

I can understand your upset. I posted a card to someone who should know better in a swap on another forum and she put MY card on her blog with HER watermark over it. That's why I have my name on all my cards now.It was just before I started blogging so she didn't expect mr to see it..
On the bright side, your cards are beautiful and obviously someone else thought that too, Ruth x

Awww honey, this is so unfair and you are right in posting this ! I have recently had a couple of my tutorials posted by someone who shall remain nameless and no credit given, no mention even, I think it is grossly unfair, terribly rude and it shows a lack of both originality and conscience ! I so hope this does not stop you posting your beautiful creations and I hope you can put it out of your mind, you are an inspiration and it would be a huge loss to the crafting community if you stopped posting your incredibly beautiful work (((((HUGS))))) I for one am behind you 100% XXX

No offence taken, I am glad you aired your feelings. I would be upset as well and it would be eating at me all week. It's a shame that someone out there did that to you. Your work is beautiful and you deserve credit where credit is due..

How awful Jane. It must be distressing for you and I certainly understand the need to say something. A similar thing happened to another blogger who was accused of stealing someone elses tutorial/idea and claiming it as their own. Hope you feel better now that you have said something about it.

Hi Jane, it's neither foolish or unnecassary to post about this when this has happened to you. I understand you must be upset, afterall it takes us hours to make our cards and its sooooo not on for anyone else to be taking credit. Hope this is an end to it! Hugs, Rowena

Oh ane, this is dreadful. Of course we all hope to provide inspiration to folks and we all look for inspiration on other blogs. However to directly copy your work is disgraceful and there is just no excuse for it. Hope they have said sorry to you hun

Oh Jane don't apologize for expressing your feelings on this topic....I think you speak on behalf of many of us in this community. It's heartbreaking when someone takes away an idea and design that belongs to you. Good for you for addressing is straight on! Keep creating my friend:)

I can understand how you would get upset about something like that. I agree that we post our creations for others inspiration only not for them to copy. Good on you for speaking up and don't let it hinder your beautiful creations and posts - I love coming and visiting and seeing your gorgeous creations.

I hate to hear that. I love your stuff. You should get credit!

Completely understandable, Jane! Think I might have been less nice and ranted more, but who knows? Love your work and have used a technique last week (can't remember what) but to completely copy AND post it as their own is terrible! As Cheryl says, hope you get an apology. Susie x

TOTALLY understandable! Don't feel you offended anyone...anyone not guilty that is! Keep us the beautiful work...we enjoy your work and are inspired! :)

So sorry to hear about this Jane. Your work is inspirational and a joy to look at. You are so free with your advice and help at our crop and share so much on your blog. That just makes what this person has done all the more wrong and dishonest. Surely they can get no pleasure from this plagiarism. If they did this at a college or university they would be thrown out on their ear - and rightly so. I do hope you can put it behind you as so many of us love to see your work and look forward to viewing your latest creations. Hugs Anne x

Ah, jeez. That's really lame! I'm so sorry, Jane. You have every right to be upset. You're cards are beautiful AND inspirational, and no one should take something like that without giving the right credit. Keep up the good work!

Paper Paradise said...

Fully agree with everyone here and for you for mentioning it. It's always good when people take inspiration from your work, but exact copies is another thing. I'm sure you will feel much happier now you have mentioned this, you did right to! x

Please don't apologise Jane, you have every right to be cross and angry.

If I read your post correctly, I may be tempted to contact the blog owner as this was a Design Team member who breached copyright and the blog owner may not wish their name / product to be connected with copyright theft.

If I have read this wrong, I am sorry and please ignore the above.

Please keep posting your beautiful work, it has given me such a lot of pleasure and is truly inspiring xxx

That is such a shame. I love your work and it often gives me inspiration for layouts (and buying flowers from Wild Orchid!) I often mention you in my blog especially when I've made a card using some of the techniques that you've used. Credit where credit is due! I would be upset if someone did it to me. Pam x

I do feel for you totally but....as unfair as it is,its how the world is, be it card making,to writing books, designing clothing to making music.
Nothing out there is that truly original, there's many a time Ive thought Ive come up with something new only to find it on the net ect....most cards on blogs all follow a formula now and its hard to see what was the original through all the copiers.
Hope this problem doesnt put you off blogging....would be sad not to see your work x

Oh Jane, I think this must be the ultimate betrayal! So sorry that it has happened to you, and you are quite within your rights to share. A very sad state of affairs! I think it's the one thing we crafters dread. That's why I also try to remember to put my name and blog address on my cards! Take care, Sharon

I didnt even know this had happened till a fellow blogger friend of mine pointed me tot his when she called me this evening. I am gobsmacked! to say the least, the absolute CHEEK! of someone soing such a thing. I can think of a few discriptive words to use for this individual which i am sure no one will appreciate so will keep the discriptive words to myself. Just wanted you to know that you have every right to express yourself and say whatever you want on YOUR blog as i do on mine. Your creations rock! my friend and thats whay she had to steal.
Feel better

p.s: would love to know who it is so i can take a shifty at the work she does.he he
